Mexico\u2019s Caribbean coast in the Yucatan peninsula, is brimming with lush vegetation and seemingly endless species of plants and flowers, and reports a staggering recorded total of 859 floral species. \u00a0The Sian Ka\u2019an biosphere is largely untouched by human activity, allowing the serene plant life to provide shelter and food for the many resident animals in this intricate ecosystem. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some of the highlights of the vegetation and flora in the Sian Ka\u2019an Biosphere:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Sub perennifolia 400;\">Covering an area of roughly 12,000 hectares, the deciduous forest in the Sian Ka\u2019an Biosphere is brimming with Coccothrinax Readii, Pseudophoenix Sargentii, Bursera Simaruba, Caesalpinia Gaumeri and Metopium Brownei. \u00a0There are at least 230 species of trees and shrubs here, and amazingly, just 14% are endemic to the Yucatan peninsula and only 10% to the Caribbean islands, meaning the majority aren\u2019t native to the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Low flood-prone jungle<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1143\" 400;\">Situated on limestone depressions or marl, these areas create a mosaic of small areas interspersed with the larger evergreen forest. \u00a0Orchids and bromeliads (part of the Epiphyte family) are plentiful, as well as Erythroxylum, Randia Aculeata, Byrsonima Crassifolia, Malpighia Lundellii, Cameraria Latifolia, Eugenia Buxifolia and Coccoloba Floribunda, as well as Dalbergia Glabra, Spinosa Bucida, Haematoxylum Campechianum and Bucida Buceras.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Wetlands<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1145 alignnone\" swampy areas have palms that reach heights between 4 and 6 meters. \u00a0While there are some small scattered patches, these regions typically form a strip along the coastline with plants such as \u00a0The vegetation here includes plants like Sesuvium, Ambrosia-Hymenocallis and Coccoloba-Thrinax.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Petenes<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1139
