Incredible Things to Do in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere

When traveling to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere, one of the world’s most beautiful nature reserves on the coast of Quintana Roo, visitors can expect to embark upon a myriad of unique adventures characteristic only to this slice of paradise.  Spend the day scuba diving at one of the most diversified coral reefs on the planet.  The Great Mesoamerican reef, the longest in the world, provides great sites that are available for recreational dives.  While diving within the biosphere is limited to those with permits, there are still a variety of excellent opportunities for underwater adventures.  Head offshore for exquisite encounters with teeming schools of fish and a variety of exotic marine life.

Travelers staying at Sian Ka’an Village can visit one of two dive sites nearby.  The first is Mahahual, an underwater haven just meters from shore.  Its vibrant marine life and close proximity to the caves and caverns of the Xcalak Reef National Park, create a sensational dive experience.  Head further south to Banco Chinchorro for a dip into the rich history that blankets the region.  This unique locale, enveloped in mystery and intrigue, allows visitors to dive amongst the European shipwrecks that occurred centuries ago. At Banco Chinchorro, you can also indulge in the unique opportunity to swim with American Crocodiles!
